Music From Memory label co-founder and UK DJ Jamie Tiller has passed away.
The label posted a statement on October 19 to announce that Tiller had died on October 15 due to “a tragic accident”. Tiller created Music From Memory in 2013 with Tako Reyenga and Abel Nagengast.
“Jamie was an absolute inspiration and an amazing friend,” the statement continued. “He approached music with a purity and humility that gave joy to so many. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to touch and inspire people all around the world.” Tiller is survived by his wife and son.
Music From Memory also said they were planning “a farewell and celebration of Jamie’s life and legacy”, details of which were soon to follow. “For now, the family thank[s] everyone for their love and support and request privacy during this time,” they concluded.
The independent record label, founded in Amsterdam, began as a reissue label that uncovered rare, obscure music from across the globe. The trio would personally for records themselves, heping revive the careers of artists including Gigi Masin, Napoleon Cherry, Dip In The Pool and Suzo Sáiz. Music From Memory would eventually add contemporary artists to its roster such as Yu Su.
